Case study of shear strengthening of RC Corbels by steel plates using fea

The study aimed to explore the possibility of strengthening RC corbels with many techniques. research analyzed behavior under a wide range variables. theoretical consisted twelve models reinforced GFRP bars by steel plate. Finite element analysis ANSYS APDL was used verify five specimens. This deals static nonlinear FE simulation investigate Corbels internally and externally. verification experimental work demonstrated satisfactory agreement in load-displacement relationship, ultimate load displacement, failure mode. parametric implemented which included four concrete externally plate configurations while remaining three were modeled varied compressive strength (30, 40, 50) MPa. external placing around corbel U-shaped form partial strips bottom internal involved instead stirrups. results discovered that provided enrichments stiffness, ductility, energy absorption 37 %, 4 26 %. In addition, case full more than retrofitting, there is maximum improvement cracking carrying capacity. better one due confinement effect concrete. stress distribution crack pattern affected techniques cracks appeared plates.
